Alex in the Real World
Alex Serra is a musician and explorer, from the Mediterranean city of Barcelona. His debut album ‘In the Real World’ (2019) springs from an inspiring four-year self-discovery journey starting in 2012 and taking him through Latin America and South Africa, where he connects with musicians from different musical roots that permeate his music with a unique and regenerating energy.
In 2014 Alex lands in Cape Town (South Africa) and meets musician Yannick Meyer with whom he forms a heartfelt brotherhood. Together they start an ‘African psychedelic Pop’ project called Native Young, joining with a marimba band form the townships of Gugulethu, Kayelitsha and Philippi. This cultural and musical human exploration changes his life, inspiring him to explore his own musical universe on his return home in 2016.
In Barcelona he begins to play at some of the local open mics, such as the legendary Club Cronopios, under the stage name Gato Suave and connects with the urban music scene of the city. In 2017 a friend introduces him to Toti Arimany (Totidub) while looking for a producer who can help fine touch his demo album. Then the magic exploded once again.
[Alex] My dream is to keep learning about music from different roots and cultures, and to share it while I explore my own universe of music and self love. And to create films that help inspire that wild kid in me and hopefully other kids too.

Totidub (The Dubmaster)
Toti Arimany (Totidub) is a master producer of Dub and music programming, basic to understand the sound of La Fournier, the house that hosted the records of Dusminguet first and La Troba Kung-Fú later.
Alex and Toti meet thanks to a friend they have in common, and they immediately connect. They begin a one-year sound exploration in a farmhouse reconverted into a musical laboratory. Together they recreate nature atmospheres with samples that Alex captured on his trip, interweaving with electronic beats of Afro-Latin rhythms, Soul and African guitars, and an exquisite use of Dub textures and effects.
The freshness of the album ‘In the Real World’ gets the attention of the indie label Mundo Zurdo, also responsible for the record aventures of Iseo & Dodosound and Macaco, and is published under the label’s umbrella on June 21, 2019.
